Drüber reden! Aber wie?
Discussion rounds about mental illness. Date: August 19th, 17:00 -19:00
Talking about mental health problems, crises, conflicts and illnesses has a long tradition and is generally believed to help people cope with them. Conversations allow people to come to terms with their own experiences; conversations are always already social interactions and thus contribute to inclusion and participation; conversations can break down social taboos and stigmas. This is why "talking about it" is currently being promoted in various campaigns. However, many people find it difficult to talk about mental health problems, crises, conflicts and illnesses. The experiences of mental illness are often new, confusing and difficult to describe and communicate. Feelings of grief and shame are often associated with them, and social taboos and stigmatisation also mean that those affected often experience difficulties in talking about their experiences with friends, relatives, employers or others.
In this research project, we are investigating from a psychiatric, linguistic and experiential perspective how "talking about it" can still be successful. How can experiences be put into words and what strategies are used to talk about them?
To this end, we record different types of conversations. Using content and conversation analyses.
