As a psychologist and cognitive neuroscientist, I am interested in the functional and structural reorganization of the brain’s language circuitry during development. I use pediatric neuroimaging techniques to investigate visual and audiovisual processes that underlie reading acquisition and how these differ in specific learning disorders, such as dyslexia. In addition, I am also interested in the genetic contribution of sex chromosomes on brain networks of learning and language, and study children with sex chromosome aneuploidies (SCA), a group of genetic disorders that are often affected by learning disabilities. My work aims at understanding the neurobiological mechanisms underlying language and literacy development to improve prognosis, diagnosis, and intervention in language-related learning disabilities that emerge during childhood.
